Isaiah 6:8
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
Isaiah 6:8 NIV
Context
Isaiah 6 NIV
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
9 He said, “Go and tell this people:
“‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’
10 Make the heart of this people calloused;
make their ears dull
and close their eyes.[a]
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”
11 Then I said, “For how long, Lord?”
And he answered:
“Until the cities lie ruined
and without inhabitant,
until the houses are left deserted
and the fields ruined and ravaged,
12 until the Lord has sent everyone far away
and the land is utterly forsaken.
13 And though a tenth remains in the land,
it will again be laid waste.
But as the terebinth and oak
leave stumps when they are cut down,
so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”

Devotional
This is where everything comes together. God has given you a gift. God has given you abilities, experiences, and opportunities. And God has given you the Holy Spirit. The question is: What will you do with what He has given you? Peter says: “Employ it in serving one another.” Don't just identify your gift. Use it. Don't just talk about what God has put in you. Let God use what's in you. Don't just admire the opportunity. Step into it. One day, we're going to stand before Jesus. And when that day comes, I don't want to look back and say: “I had a gift, but I never used it.” “I had an opportunity, but I was too afraid.” “I had a calling, but I was too comfortable.” “God wanted to do something through me, but I never surrendered.” Instead, I want to be able to say: “Lord, You gave me a gift, and I used it for Your glory.” We don't know how many days we have left. But we know we have today. We don't know how many opportunities are ahead. But we know there is an opportunity in front of us right now. So perhaps the most important prayer we can pray isn't: “Lord, show me my gift.” It's: “Lord, show me where You want to use me.” And then when He shows us: “Here I am. Send me.”

Prayer
Lord, here I am. Send me. Whatever You have placed inside of me, I give it back to You. Whatever gift You have given me, I want to use it for Your glory. Whatever opportunity You place before me, give me the courage to step into it. Don't let me waste the days You've given me. Don't let fear keep me from obedience. Don't let comfort keep me from serving. Use my life to reach people, encourage people, serve people, build Your Church, and glorify Jesus.
Holy Spirit, empower me. Jesus, use me. Father, send me. Here I am. Send me. Amen.

Reflect
- What is God asking you to surrender to Him?
- Where can you use your gift this week to serve someone?
- What would it look like for you to live with an Isaiah 6:8 attitude?
- If you stood before Jesus today, would you feel that you had been faithful with what He gave you?
